Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) is excited to announce Matt Strickland as the new Head Coach for the Coyote Women’s Basketball team!

Originally from Inglewood, CA., Strickland comes to CGCC from Louisiana, where he was the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Louisiana State University (LSU) Shreveport for the past four seasons. In that time, Strickland compiled an 80-30 overall record, winning one regular season championship and two tournament championships, along with three NAIA National Tournament Appearances. In those four seasons, the team also boasted a 100% graduation rate.

Before becoming the Head Women's Coach, Strickland was the Men's Basketball Assistant Coach at LSU Shreveport under Kyle Blankenship. The team produced a 23-11 overall record and made the NAIA National Tournament with a Sweet 16 Finish.

This won’t be Strickland’s first stint coaching in the NJCAA, as he began his coaching career as the Women's Basketball Assistant Coach at Gillette College, his alma mater in Wyoming, for two seasons. In the 2015-2016 season, the Lady Pronghorns won the Region IX regular Season and Tournament championship and made their first ever appearance in the NJCAA DI National Tournament. Strickland helped nine players receive athletic scholarships to NCAA DI, DII and NAIA programs.

“I am excited to be chosen as the next leader for the Women’s Basketball program at CGCC,” said Strickland. “I want to thank Athletic Director Russ Luce and the rest of the search committee for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started!”

Strickland earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching Theories from Rocky Mountain College in Montana and earned his master’s in Educational Leadership from LSU Shreveport.
