Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC), one of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges, is proud to announce its first-ever baccalaureate program, the Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (BS), further solidifying the college’s leadership in AI education.
The fully accredited bachelor’s degree program, set to launch in Fall 2025, will give students access to experienced faculty and a robust curriculum focused on emerging principles and methodologies in the building of machine learning models.
With approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the bachelor’s degree program is the latest product of Maricopa Community Colleges and CGCC’s leadership in AI-focused education—making CGCC only the third community college in the nation to offer a bachelor’s degree program specializing in AI.
Students will be able to apply to the bachelor’s degree program beginning in March.
At the Forefront of AI
As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in the workplace, employers recognize a growing skills gap with 51 percent of organizations indicating that their employees lack the necessary skills to execute AI and machine learning strategies.
In addressing this gap, Maricopa Community Colleges and Intel announced in 2020 the launch of Arizona’s first-ever AI and machine learning associate degree and certificate programs housed at CGCC—spurring a series of innovative initiatives at the college aimed at equipping the next generation of professionals with the skills needed to drive innovation, including a first-of-its-kind AI incubator lab, an AI-focused teaching and learning summit, and participation in the National Applied Artificial Intelligence Consortium.
“Chandler-Gilbert Community College is proud of the work we have done on a local and national scale in the exciting field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Receiving approval to offer our first bachelor’s degree in this field will allow us to continue to be at the forefront of AI and provide access to outstanding educational opportunities for our community. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing students with a high-quality educational experience and we are excited to welcome the first group of students pursuing the first bachelor’s degree that will be offered by our college.” - Dr. CJ Wurster, Interim President, Chandler-Gilbert Community College
Celebrating Our AI Journey
In celebration of the success of CGCC’s current AI programs and the highly anticipated launch of its bachelor’s degree program, the college will be hosting a free event open to the community, “Empower CGCC: Supporting Success and Expanding Opportunities,” at the CGCC Pecos campus, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., on December 4, also in support of the EmpowerED for Student Success giving campaign at Maricopa Community Colleges.
The celebratory event is also an opportunity for the community to learn more about the new four-year program and other leading AI initiatives.
