Mortuary Science Program Class

The Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) is proud to announce the introduction of a new spring cohort for its esteemed Mortuary Science Program, starting in Spring 2025. This marks a significant expansion for the program, which has traditionally admitted one cohort every fall for over two decades.

As the only mortuary science program in the state of Arizona, CGCC’s program has long been a staple of funeral service education. The CGCC Mortuary Science Program is the primary contributor to the funeral service workforce in Arizona. This program’s commitment to excellence is reflected in the success of its alumni, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in the funeral service industry. The program’s graduates are known for their technical proficiency, ethical standards, and compassionate care, making them highly sought after by funeral homes and related businesses.

The decision to introduce a spring cohort comes in response to the significant increase in the number of prospective student applications and the program's commitment to providing flexible and accessible education opportunities. This expansion will allow more students to embark on their journey towards a fulfilling career in mortuary science without having to wait for the annual fall intake.

The Mortuary Science Program at Chandler-Gilbert is accredited by The American Board of Funeral Service Education which guides its comprehensive curriculum that covers both the business and science aspects of funeral service. Students gain a deep understanding of funeral service management, embalming, restorative art, grief support, and more. This holistic approach ensures that graduates are well-equipped to handle all facets of the profession with competence and care.

Additionally, students are trained in a variety of specialized skills essential to modern funeral services. This includes cosmetic techniques for restorative purposes, enabling students to help families see their loved ones in their time of need. Students also learn the proper way to honor service members, ensuring that funerals for veterans and active-duty military, police, and fire department personnel are conducted with the utmost respect and dignity.

In line with its commitment to providing cutting-edge education, the program has recently incorporated state-of-the-art teaching tools, including the Anatomage table. This interactive learning tool revolutionizes the way anatomy is taught, offering students a hands-on, immersive experience. The Anatomage table allows for detailed visualization of human anatomy, enhancing the learning experience and ensuring students gain a thorough understanding of the human body, which is crucial for their future roles in the funeral service industry.

As the program continues to grow and evolve, the introduction of a spring cohort is a testament to CGCC’s dedication to fostering the next generation of funeral service professionals. Prospective students interested in joining the Spring 2025 cohort are encouraged to apply. Applications for Spring 2025 admission are now open and close on October 31, 2024.
