President CJ Wurster

Hello Coyotes! You’re in college now — whether this is your first semester or you are a returning student, I am so excited for you to start this new academic year with us here at CGCC! We are here to support more than just your education. August also happens to be National Wellness Month, so this is a great opportunity to let you know about the many resources we have here at the college to support your overall wellness.

We’ve got the best faculty and staff around, and we also have so many ways to support you in maintaining your overall wellness — whether that be at our fitness center, or through our Counseling Services, or just making sure you are nourished by stopping by the Coyote Cupboard. One of the best things about CGCC is all of the support we have for your personal wellness; but don’t just take my word for it, here are a few quotes from some of my CGCC colleagues that will give you some great insight:

  • Basic Needs - KT Campbell, our Student Services Specialist in our Student Life department says “Coyote Cupboard is a great resource available to all students. Sometimes, we all have unexpected expenses and might not have enough money to cover groceries for the month, and with that in mind, we created the Coyote Cupboard. We offer the basic non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables, beans, tuna, boxes of macaroni cheese, pasta, sauce, and peanut butter to name a few. Also, the Coyote Cupboard offers instant meals such as oatmeal, ramen, and cans of soup so if you forgot your lunch and are hungry, we have you covered! From time to time we also offer household supplies and school supplies so swing by while on campus and check it out! There are no specific qualifications so absolutely everyone can utilize this service.”
  • Disability Resource Services - Cheryl Hernandez, our Disability Resource Services Director, says “The Disability Resources and Support Services team offers referral to agencies, such as counseling services, Vocational Rehabilitation, and provides support for ADA accommodations. These supports are for students with documented disabilities who need assistance in the classrooms. These may include (but are not limited to) extra testing time, a quiet place to take tests, recording of test lectures, and assistive technology. The DRS department also offers consultation to faculty and staff who need assistance with understanding student disability rights and accommodations.”
  • Fitness Center - Corey Wick, our Wellness and Fitness Supervisor, says "The Coyote fitness center and its staff are focused on making movement and well-being part of our campus culture. Our gym is 4,000 square feet filled with strength training, cardio, and functional training equipment coupled with a knowledgeable staff of trainers and strength coaches dedicated to helping you achieve your fitness goals. Throughout the school year we hold monthly wellness challenges for employees and students that focus on the 8-dimensions of wellness and offer prizes as incentive for those who participate. GO YOTES!"

So, I encourage you to take full advantage of these resources and services at Chandler-Gilbert Community College to support your overall wellness. I’d love to hear about other ways you will focus on your wellness as this new semester starts, and throughout the year!

Let’s have a great start to the semester - Howl Yeah!
