Are you a fan of all things comic book, anime, and gaming-related? Do you love cosplay and spending time with like-minded individuals who share your passion for pop culture? Then mark your calendars for Chandler-Gilbert Community College's 2nd Annual Coyote Con, sponsored by CGCC Libraries!
Taking place April 10-13, 2023, events will be held at both the Pecos and Williams campuses, and this year's Coyote Con promises to be bigger and better than ever. With an array of exciting sessions, games, guests, and activities, there's something for everyone at this event.
Coyote Con has a full lineup of programs throughout the four days, from gaming tournaments to performances, including:
- Developing Interesting Characters & Role-Playing Basics, Williams Campus Higley Room: Monday at 10:00 am
- This workshop will provide a basic introduction to character development for both story and tabletop role playing, including how to embody and voice characters. Attendees will leave with a playable character.
- Comic Book Artist Talk, Pecos Library, 1st floor, Tuesday from 12 - 3:00 pm
- Valerie Hochberg, Katelyn McCaigue, David Quiroz Jr., and John Yurcaba will share their experiences with creating characters and developing comic books, including getting published. Steve Jackson: The co-founder of Steve Jackson Games and creator of the popular tabletop RPG "GURPS," Steve Jackson will be on hand to talk about his work and sign autographs.
- Off the Cuff Comedy Improv, Williams Campus Higley Room 150, Tuesday at 11:00 am
- Off the Cuff provides a high-energy, interactive show. If you enjoy improv comedy, you’ll love Off the Cuff!
- Coyote Con 2-Minute Debate Contest, Williams Campus, Grass Lawn outside of EGEL, Tuesday from 1:30 - 2:45 pm
- Participants will work in teams to create and hold 2-minute debates on pop culture topics. Winners will receive Coyote Con fame and small prizes!
- You Oughta Be in Pictures! Film Short Event, Pecos Campus at the Student Center Pavilion, Wednesday at 10:00 am
- You Oughta Be in Pictures! CGC students will work with a professional cinematographer to create a short film in just 1 hour, exploring the super powers inherent in us all! Join in the fun--no acting experience (or memorized lines) required!
- Artist Talk, Williams Campus Higley Room 150, Wednesday at 11:00 am
- Comic Book artist John Yurcaba will share experiences with creating characters and developing comic books, including getting published.
- Koyote Kombat Tournament, Pecos Campus at the Student Center Pavilion, Thursday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
- Video Game Tourney featuring Super Smash Bros Ultimate & Injustice. The tournament will be double-elimination format with prizes to the top 3 players.
- Film Showing: Black Panther, Williams Campus Bridget Lounge, Thursday from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
- Plus many more!
Whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting started in the world of pop culture fandom, there's something for everyone to learn and enjoy. Plus, throughout the week, there will be a Superhero Book and Pajama Drive at both campuses to support local kids through the Pajama Program.
