Empty Bowls on October 25

2022 is the ninth anniversary of Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) partnering with AZCEND for Empty Bowls, a local food bank fundraising event. The all day event will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at CGCC's Student Pavilion.

Empty Bowls originated in 1980 by two art instructors in Michigan and was designed to provide aid to, and increase public awareness of, those experiencing homelessness and everyday hunger. This grassroots movement caught like wildfire and is now a nationwide effort. CGCC is happy to mark its 9th year of Empty Bowls collaboration with AZCEND, a local charitable powerhouse that provides food and other resources to residents of Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, and surrounding areas.

The event also utilizes CGCC programs and student work. The ceramics department provides handmade bowls created by students throughout the year for this one event, and every bowl is unique with a signature mark on the bottom. There is also an annual Silent Auction featuring select art pieces for bid that will open on October 17, 2022, and close at 6:00 p.m. on October 25, 2022. Bid online at https://one.bidpal.net/emptybowlsoctober22/welcome.

With the purchase every bowl, attendees will receive a cup of soup that's made as a minimal calorie meal to emphasize how many people around the world live on only 300 calories per day. It's literally food for thought.

All proceeds from Empty Bowls support AZCEND’s food bank efforts to combat hunger and provide food boxes to locals in need. Their Food Bank serves area households with limited/uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Learn more about AZCEND at https://azcend.org/ and make plans to attend!
