The Chandler-Gilbert Community College Theatre Program offers you a comprehensive educational experience with activities and performance opportunities for a diverse community of students. The theatre program provides quality life-long learning opportunities in a learner-centered environment.
At CGCC, the Performing Arts are fully integrated with Theatre, Music and Dance departments sharing their performance spaces, faculty, and teaching artists while fostering a vibrant arts community committed to expanding appreciation for the performing disciplines. Communication and collaboration skills are fundamental components of our approach to education.
With a focus on theatre as an art form, you are able to develop technical skills through hands-on and theoretical practices. A supportive environment fosters confidence and creativity. Small classes allow you opportunities to explore and gain knowledge useful to a career in theatre or theatre-related fields.
Performance opportunities within the academic year include two main stage plays, two main stage musicals, two black box shows, four improv shows, two short films, student directed one acts, devised theatre opportunities and community outreach. Technical theatre, stage management, and design opportunities are integrated into each production with an expectation that students learn and understand all aspects of what it takes to create theatre.
The theatre program is part of a larger Performing Arts department and works closely with the music and dance programs for multi-disciplinary learning and performance experiences. You will have additional performance opportunities available throughout the year including MCCCD’s Artist of Promise Competition, Disaster Day and annual participation in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Recent high school grads, invested community members, life-long learners and non-traditional students are all invited to experience and study Theatre Arts at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
