Workshop Topics

What Do I Teach in AI? - Presenter Habib Matar

Artificial Intelligence is a confusing term. It is broadly defined and is a highly marketable term. This session will discuss the many different interpretations of Artificial Intelligence and how they can be applied to education. We will discuss the landscape of Arizona Education and how other institutions are framing their AI Educational Programs. Lastly, we will review how CGCC is framing our AI Program and what the need is to grow technically savvy faculty into potential adjuncts or full-time hires.

Interactive Work Session - What Do I Teach in AI? - Presenter Habib Matar

This session will be dedicated to an application of Session 1 - What Do I Teach in AI? As groups you will be given a high-level overview of the possible applications of Artificial Intelligence. Then you will explore how these possible applications could be projects in a defined industry. Lastly, we will have an open discussion about how these kinds of projects could be implemented in our respective programs or schools.

Overview of Content of a No-Prerequisite Course in AI - Presenter Habib Matar

Artificial Intelligence is often assumed to be a field that is highly complex and inaccessible to beginners. For deep comprehension of the field, this is true. However, my Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course that has been taught for 4 years shows that anyone can begin to learn Artificial Intelligence if it is packaged in an interpretable way. This session will go over the course schedule for an Intro to AI course, some examples of labs that students love, and chat about how the audience can get involved in teaching a similar course.

Tools to Teach Artificial Intelligence - Presenter Nickolas Dodd

In this session, there will be an overview of the tools that can be used to teach Artificial Intelligence. This will range from a beginner utilizing a drag and drop interface to more advanced applications that require coding. Since there are many tools available that utilize AI, this will help the audience become familiar with some of the most popular ones and understand why they are useful.

Interactive Work Session - Tools to Teach Artificial Intelligence - Presenter Nickolas Dodd

This session will be dedicated to an application of Session 4 - Tools to Teach Artificial Intelligence. The audience will be given a few examples of the tools and problem statements for them to accomplish with the tools. This will give the participants the confidence that they can utilize these tools with minimal preparation. Lastly, we will have an open discussion on how these tools can be used within a class or program.

A 6 Step Checklist for Increasing the Surface Area for Learning in Existing Assignments Adapted for Applied AI use and Tools - Presenter Miguel Fernandez

This session will overview a teacher's point of view of a 6 step quick checklist for either adapting/augmenting an existing assignment with applied AI use and adding AI literacy concepts, or scaffolding an existing assignment or learning outcome with discussions (or digital garden approaches) for greater engagement via applied AI use examples and application, with minimum disruption to your already full teaching content and busy course pace.

After suggesting some ways to gain some AI literacy basics from educator/teacher/faculty POV of use, the checklist approach will discuss incorporating AI literacy and prompt writing use in 6 discipline-agnostic steps/ways:
1) Brainstorming and interdisciplinarity
2) Reconfigure/align to outcomes related to 'learning by doing' and avoiding AI as novelty
3) Student centered Personalization and AI-assist as adaptive tutor approaches
4) Cheat-proofing without over-policing mindset
5) Leveraging student reflection for value/buy-in to AI in the EDU life long learning ecosystem of the 21st century
6) Post Mortem (assess & reflect -- is it time to reconfigure/rewrite an assignment from scratch for AI benefits/avoiding AI pitfalls?)

AI and Racial Bias - Presenter Dr. Kaziah Tinkle-Williams

Should artificial intelligence compose representations of race? This interactive seminar will enable participants to engage with a modern scenario at the intersection of artificial intelligence and race to assess how racial biases can be reflected in architecture. Participants will discuss ethical implications as they pertain to teaching and learning in higher education. As a result of this seminar, former participants from various professions have reevaluated their respective disciplines.

AI Note-Taking in the Classroom - Presenter Cheryl Hernandez

Artificial Intelligence is an emerging resource that allows students to concentrate in class and capture notes electronically. This presentation will describe the type of AI note-taking services available, what the services can do, and help to alleviate any worries of using AI transcription services in the classroom.

Building Global Language Communities: Integrating AI and Open Education for Cross-Cultural Language Learning - Presenter Fernando Romero

This session explores how AI tools and an open education model can facilitate the creation of vibrant, international language-learning communities. Drawing on a four-year initiative that engaged participants from Argentina, Mexico, Italy, Poland, Peru, Colombia, Switzerland, and Japan, this presentation will highlight strategies for leveraging technology to foster language skills and cross-cultural connections.

Session Goals:
Participants will learn how to implement AI-driven language tools, facilitate open educational practices, and build an engaging, diverse learning environment that enhances both linguistic and cultural proficiency. The session will demonstrate how personalized, accessible technology can create a supportive space for learners from diverse backgrounds, fostering global perspectives and collaboration.

Toilet Paper Shortage? Let’s ask Keynes! Roleplay in Economics with Character AI - Presenter Malda Sarayji

This presentation introduces an innovative pedagogical approach that leverages artificial intelligence to deepen students' understanding of economic theories through interactive and immersive role-play.

Specifically, it details an activity where students use Character.AI to engage in debates on macroeconomic issues from the perspectives of seminal economists Friedrich Hayek and John Maynard Keynes. Prior experience with AI is not required for this session.

Teaching in the AI Era: Redefining Ethics and Integrity in Higher Education - Presenters Gabriela Rosu and Dr. Paul Petrequin

The session will examine how generative AI reshapes teaching and learning dynamics in higher education. Faculty will explore how to create AI-inclusive syllabi, incorporate AI literacy into their curriculum, and guide students in ethical AI usage. The session will emphasize how faculty can take proactive approaches to ensure that AI usage aligns with institutional values, academic integrity, and rigor. Faculty will leave with actionable strategies to responsibly navigate AI's evolving role in education.
