Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) is proud to announce that the Salt River Project (SRP) Santan Generating Station generously donated $10,000 to support CGCC’s Coyote Cupboard, which offers free, nonperishable food, household products, personal care items, school supplies and more for CGCC students.
This donation will also provide additional student emergency funds to aid students struggling with other needs, such as transportation, utilities and housing. SRP Santan Generating Station’s support puts more food on Coyote Cupboard’s shelves and allows CGCC to better support students with allergies and dietary restrictions.
Dr. CJ Wurster, President of CGCC, sees the partnership as a “crucial part of our shared commitment to the common goal of helping our communities thrive. When education and engaged community partners such as the SRP Santan Generating Station come together, we can make measurable change for the betterment of the communities that we serve—and that starts here on campus, in the lives of our students and their families.”
Since 2024, SRP Santan Generating Station has donated $29,000 to help CGCC and its students, providing funding for two core CGCC community-focused programs: Ignite and Destination College. Ignite is a STEM-focused conference, hosted twice a year, once for middle school students and once for high school students. The program offers engaging, hands-on activities, expert panel discussions and access to educational providers to help students plan out college and career pathways. Ignite provides early exposure and access to STEM education and more importantly, inspires curiosity.
Destination College is a signature partnership between CGCC and Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) that welcomes 200 rising 6th graders to campus every summer for two weeks. This immersive program creates a college-like experience for students and places them in engaging coursework on topics ranging from artificial intelligence to forensics. SRP Santan Generating Station’s donation made it possible for CGCC to purchase needed STEM and teaching equipment and create an environment for these students to feel like real college students.
“SRP Santan Generating Station and its employees are proud to be a part of the community,” said Barbara Sprungl, SRP Director of Santan and Kyrene Generating Stations. “Our support of Chandler-Gilbert Community College will help give local students the resources they need to be successful and lays the foundation for a strong future workforce.”
